FOGRS wins third prize for Sea Cavalcade float

The Friends of Gospel Rock designed & built a winning float for the 2012 Sea Cavalcade taking home the Third Prize Ribbon in the Club/Association category. In keeping with the "Enchanting Memories by the Sea" theme the Sea Cavalcade committee chose this year, Catherine McManus designed and spearheaded the float project  keeping in my mind that "Gospel Rock is Gibsons' Enchanted Forest by the Sea".

The float truck was covered with a massive grey tarp to appear as a giant rock. The trailer was decorated with various flora & fauna from the red listed ecosystem which the Friends are trying to protect - rather than reminisce about later as an enchanted memory! A giant sized Alligator Lizard rested on the back of the float, along with rare & fanciful flowers, trees and plants and a pair of nymphs were spotted blowing colourful orbs out from under the canopy and spreading the magic.

Crowds of spectators waved and shouted out as the Friends of Gospel Rock carried the SAVE GOSPEL ROCK Banner. Cheers and chants were heard through the streets as sign carriers passed by, waving signs reading things like “Gospel Rock Rocks! and Gospel Rock – Gibsons Lovers Lane. Many enthusiastic parade watchers were reminded of their own Enchanted Memories by the Sea when they noticed the happy Bride & Groom floating atop the “Rock”.

The float was accompanied by myriad magical creatures  including a drumming Bear who conjured up smiles to match her own as people noticed her and then spotted the large egg in the eagle's nest soaring up from the float above her. The majestic Eagle, Owl and Tree stilt walkers from the “Upper Realms” stole the show as they stopped to play and dance with children all along the parade route.

A Honey Bee, Bird and Butterfly handed out goodies to the children along the route and a handful of Gospel Rock supporters carrying signs, blew irridescent bubbles and handed out flyers for Loretta Macklam's film "For the Love of Gospel Rock" Gala Premier Event August 8th 2012.

A lot of time and energy went into the float and the signs and creating the festival atmosphere of the float and the efforts paid off with resounding cheers from the crowd – to SAVE GOSPEL ROCK. We heard you. Let’s hope Council did too!
